Shut off all the water in your house/building – make sure the hot water heater and toilets are not filling up.
Go out to your meter and look to see if dials are moving – even very slowly.
If moving – there is a leak.
Go back into the house/building and shut off the main valve to the house/building which is usually near the hot water heater.
Go back and look at the meter, if it is still moving the leak is somewhere between the house and the meter (underground). If it is not moving, the leak is in the house/building.
Please call us if you have confirmed that there is a leak in your service line between the house and the meter and let us know so that we can document it on your account. If your leak is in the months between mid-October and mid-April you may be eligible for a reduction of your water bill by providing receipts and photos of the repair according to our Bylaws.
Please note that we cannot assist you past the water meter. We also cannot recommend private contractors to assist you. You can search on the internet for “leak detection companies” and/or plumbers or excavators. We can recommend that you call several and get pricing.
